The Town is asking you to please consider sending a letter of support for the development of New Hanover at Scotts Hill, a proposed 68-bed hospital in northeast New Hanover County designed to better serve coastal New Hanover and Pender County. Letters of support are essential to Certificate of Need (“CON”) approval of the proposed project. The need for acute care services is driven in part by the rapid population growth in northeast New Hanover County, the Scotts Hill area, and surrounding communities. Our residents, property owners, and visitors on the island often have difficulty getting to downtown Wilmington as the volume of traffic on Highway 17 continues to grow. Accessibility to patient care is a critical need to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of our community.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) has a strong presence in the Scotts Hill area with its existing hospital-based surgery center, Atlantic Surgicenter, and its Freestanding Emergency Department. The proposed new hospital is the next logical step to expand services, increase access to high growth areas of our region.
